Winn Dixie Partners with Alexander to Turn Students into Junior Cake Decorators

Thanks to their local Winn Dixie store, students at A.C. Alexander Elementary School not only decorated their cakes, but ate them, too. At a recent cake design event sponsored by Winn Dixie, Alexander students donned hairnets, aprons, and gloves, and topped their outfits off with hats that read “I’m a jr. cake decorator.”

According to Clayton Majaste, store director for the Kenner Winn Dixie located at Williams and Vintage, Winn Dixie has a long history of commitment to the community.

“We don’t want to just give a donation, we want to interact with our community,” he said. “It’s a fun time for our employees as well as the students.”

Majaste and his crew hold four events each year for the students; in addition to cake design, the events include king cake decorating, floral design, and an art fest.

“I know that it is very expensive for a school to go on a field trip, so we come to the school with all the supplies,” he said. “I call it an in-house field trip.”

Any school can partner with their local Winn Dixie to bring these events to their students. Principals interested in a partnership should contact the store director of the Winn Dixie nearest to the school.
