West Jefferson High School Receives Instruments from the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation

mrholland-bannerThe West Jefferson High School Band Program was the recipient of 14 musical instruments worth $21,000 from the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.

“I would like to congratulate principal Vanessa Brown-Lewis and band director Frank Lewis for their initiative and hard work in preparing the proposal,” said Superintendent Dr. James Meza, Jr. “Music and the arts are so important for our students, and we are thankful to the foundation for helping support our band program at West Jefferson High.”

Instruments included in the donation were:

  • 1 silver sousaphone
  • 1 bell front baritone
  • 5 trumpets
  • 6 clarinets
  • 1 mellophone

According to the foundation’s website, the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is a national organization “keeps music alive in our schools and communities by donating musical instruments to under-funded music programs, giving youngsters the many benefits of music education, helping them to be better students and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music.”
