The Rotary Club of the West Bank honored Leo Kerner Elementary teacher Melanie Poché as its 2016-17 Teacher of the Year. The honor is part of the club’s vocational awards week, which also recognizes first responders.

“We are basically recognizing people in our community who give of themselves for other people,” said Rotary Club of the West Bank President Brent Lawson during the presentation on June 6.

While he was introducing Poché during the awards presentation, Lawson read some of the nomination letters they received for the fourth grade teacher at Kerner Elementary. Some of Poché’s co-workers wrote about her positive attitude and how much they learn from her.

“She creates a rigorous classroom environment and strives to make sure all the needs of her students are met,” said Kerner Elementary Principal Suzanne Bordlee.
