Collegiate Academy Gives Grace King Students Head Start on College and Career

GroupStudents in the Jefferson Parish Public School System now have even more avenues to get a head start on their education after high school.

Grace King High recently announced a partnership with the University of New Orleans. The two schools are joining together to prepare students for college and career through Grace King’s expanded collegiate academy.

Upperclassmen at Grace King will be allowed to enroll in English 101, calculus, biology 101, and psychology during the school year. The courses will be led by UNO professors.

GDSC_2313race King already enjoys a partnership with Delgado Community College. This four year relationship is also growing, as Delgado will begin offering western civilizations, logistics, and digital media courses to Grace King students this school year.

“This is the only program of its kind in the Jefferson Parish Public School System,” said Grace King High Principal Sharon Meggs-Hamilton. “Not only will our collegiate academy students get the academic benefits of this dual enrollment program, but they will get many of the other benefits that come with being a student at UNO and Delgado. It’s truly a head start on their education after high school.”

Grace King High’s collegiate academy students got the opportunity to meet some of their instructors during a meet and greet at the school on Tuesday, August 16. Meggs-Hamilton and Jefferson Parish School Board member Marion Bonura spoke with the students about the unique opportunity this program offers. See below for pictures from the event.
