UNO Athletes Inspire Green Park Elementary Students to Read

cheer 2Members of the University of New Orleans women’s basketball team visited Green Park Elementary recently to speak with students about the importance of academics. Reading, in particular, was cited by these student-athletes as an integral part of their success in college. They explained how much reading is required in their college courses, and the students gasped when they showed them how thick their college textbooks are!

The UNO students challenged all Green Park students to meet their Accelerated Reader goals set by their teachers. They promised to give four free UNO Basketball tickets to each student who met this goal. Students learned they would also be given a free Dress Down Day for Monday, March 7 if they succeeded in the UNO/AR Challenge. When the deadline came, 145 students succeeded!

Members of the Green Park community went out to support our local teams at the game on Saturday, March 5, at the UNO Lakefront Arena. The Green Park Gator Girls performed for the men’s game. Their spirit and the cheering of the Green Park fans helped the UNO Privateers win their game!
