Three JPPSS Schools In Newsweek’s 2012 “America’s Best High Schools”

Three schools in the Jefferson Parish Public School System earned top rankings in Newsweek magazine’s annual list of the top high schools in the country.

Taylor Academy, Haynes Academy, and Thomas Jefferson High School received top rankings in Newsweek’s 2012 “America’s Best High Schools.”  This is the first time that all three schools were listed in the annual ranking.  Only seven schools in Louisiana made Newsweek’s list.

The annual rankings by Newsweek highlight the 1,000 public high schools nationwide that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready graduates. In all, more than 2,300 schools were assessed to produce the final list of 1,000 schools.

In order to be considered for the list, a school had to complete a survey requesting specific data from the 2010-2011 academic year. The schools ranking is based on a final calculation of six major weighted criteria.

Taylor Academy was ranked at 141, Haynes Academy was ranked at 208, and Thomas Jefferson was ranked at 395.

Congratulations to all three schools on their national accomplishment!
