Thank you for your support in the 2012-13 school year

Greetings Parents and Community Leaders,

Thank you for your support this year of Jefferson Parish Schools and our reform initiatives.  Louisiana’s State Superintendent, John White, recently recognized our district’s dramatic test gains and reform initiatives this year by hosting a statewide press conference at one of our outstanding schools, Greenlawn Terrace Elementary School. It was a very special day as the event was streamed over the internet to all Louisiana school districts.

As you know, this year we launched a bold transformation to effectively serve the needs of schools, educators, and most importantly, students. We opted to pursue a new set of strategies in order to dramatically change the status quo and raise student achievement at all levels. We are extremely pleased with the results in the first year of our transformation process.  As we continue to build on our reform initiatives, we expect to advance our outcomes next year as we more effectively meet the needs of our students and teachers.  Our pillars of reform included:

  • Accountability – Holding everyone to specific, measurable results
  • Autonomy – Moving decision-making closer to the students
  • Finance – Aligning spending with academic outcomes
  • Human Capital – Attracting, developing, and sustaining high quality personnel
  • Reorganize mission of Central Office
  • Stabilize Budget
  • Implement a Network Support System

This year’s high gains in LEAP (highlights attached) across our district is a testament to the strategic planning and hard work of all of our many employees working in schools and at the central office.  We achieved the fourth highest jump in test scores in Louisiana. The hard work of our students and their families is inspiring to all of us. We are confident that results will continue on this trajectory as we work to empower principals and teachers to make decisions to best serve all of our students. We face difficult financial decisions but will continue to operate with students at the center of our decision making. Together with our students’ families and our business and community partners, we celebrate the achievements of our students in Jefferson Parish Public Schools. We look forward to continuing this important work as a community. Our students deserve the absolute best, and we are committed to providing them with the highest quality education
