Ten JPPSS Schools Recognized As Higher Performing Schools

The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) has named ten Jefferson Parish Public Schools to its 2012 Higher Performing Schools list in the state of Louisiana. NCEA, a division of ACT, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization that provides research-based solutions and expertise in higher performing schools, school improvement, and best practice research that lead to increased levels of college and career readiness.

“We are proud of our schools recognized by NCEA,” said Superintendent James Meza. “This honor serves as further validation of the work that’s happening in JPPSS schools, led by our talented teachers, principals, and staff.”

NCEA used the following criteria when determining Higher Performing Schools: 1) consistent improvement in student achievement from previous years (growth), and/or 2) absolute student achievement using the schools’ Advanced achievement level on the 2010-2012 Integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) for Grades 3, 5, 6, and 7, and the Grade 4 Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP).

JPPSS schools honored by NCEA are: Bissonet Plaza Elementary, Gretna No. 2 Advanced Studies Academy, Harahan Elementary, Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies, J.C. Ellis Elementary, John Q. Adams Middle School, Ruppel Academy for Advanced Studies, Marrero Academy for Advanced Studies, Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies and Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy.
