Taylor Faculty Receive Honors from the International Society of Technology in Education

Lisa Valence and Elizabeth KahnEnglish teacher Lisa Valence and librarian Elizabeth Kahn from Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy received the Technology Innovation Award Secondary Category from the special interest group media specialists (SIGMS) of the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE). Valence and Kahn received their award this summer at the ISTE annual conference.

They began their project, called “Traveling to the Ninth Ward,” by having seventh graders read Jewell Parker Rhodes’ novel “The Ninth Ward” which details a young girl’s experience during Hurricane Katrina. The class corresponded with students at the Van Meter Community School District in Iowa about the book.

Throughout the project, students used various technologies including a Skype session from a field trip to the Ninth Ward so that they could be the “eyes and ears” for the students in Iowa.

Congratulations to Lisa Valence and Elizabeth Kahn on this honor!
