Saints Visit Audubon Elementary

Audubon Elementary students were treated to a visit from two New Orleans Saints players as part of the NFL’s Fuel Up to Play 60 and Rotolo’s Team Up for Literacy Program.

Fuel Up to Play 60 is the NFL’s campaign to encourage kids to be active for at least 60 minutes a day to help reverse the trend of childhood obesity.

The Saints’ fullback Jed Collins and center Brian de la Puente were led into Audubon Elementary by the Bonnabel Magnet Academy Drum Corps and the dance team and cheerleaders from Bonnabel.

Collins thanked the students and began talking about the importance of education.

“We want to talk to you about reading and being healthy and the importance of what you do every day here at school,” said Collins. “Reading helps to grow your imagination. Books take you to other places and meet friends that you never knew that you had.”

De la Puente reminded students that doing well in school is important, especially if they want to participate in sports.

“If you don’t get good grades, you can’t play,” said de la Puente. “Get the job done in the classroom. During the week, we spend a lot of time in the classroom studying our playbook. If I didn’t have the tools that I learned in school, I would not have had the success that I’ve had in football.”
