Rudolph Matas School PTO Wins $20,000 Towards Playground for All Kids

The Rudolph Matas School PTO won $20,000 for a playground, but these dedicated volunteers are just getting started making a difference for all kids.

Let’s Play (an initiative by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group) and national non-profit KaBOOM! announced Rudolph Matas School’s PTO as one of the winners of the $20,000 Upgrade Your Play video competition. The Matas PTO’s award-winning video can be viewed above. As part of the contest, community organizations submitted fun, creative videos demonstrating why play is important for kids and the need for a new community playground. As part of the Upgrade Your Play video contest, these grantees will lead their community through a self-guided planning process and will build a playground using the KaBOOM! community build model.

All $20,000 of the playground grant will go towards playground equipment. The Matas PTO has now set a goal of raising an additional $70,000. Their vision is to build a playground that is accessible for all children, including the school’s special needs population. Special needs students would benefit from features like ramps, cool topper, rubber surfacing, and wood chips.

The Matas PTO is in the planning stages, but early fundraising efforts include commemorative brick sales, multiple food sales, a fall festival, and donations. If you are interested in helping, visit mataspto.org or contact rudolphmataspto@gmail.com.
