Rando Named Louisiana’s 2011 Nurse of the Year

School Nurse Kathyrn Rando has been named Louisiana’s 2011 Nurse of the Year.

Rando, who started in the Jefferson Parish Public School System in 1989, cares for regular and special education students at her three assigned schools of Fisher, Homedale, and Pittman.  This is the first time she has been honored as state Nurse of the Year.

Rando graduated in 1974 with a BSN from the University of Southwestern LA (USL), now known as UL of Lafayette.

Rando was honored for her ability to go over and above her job requirements in caring for her students and the faculty in her schools whether treating for minor illness/injury, performing routine health screenings, or training staff to administer emergency medication/treatment, etc.

Rando has served as chairman of the Ways and Means committee for the Louisiana State Nurses Organization as well as serving on the medication committee.
