Plenty to Get Excited About Following Discovery Days at Allen Ellender School

“I’ve seen an area where we can really lead in this state and in this nation.” JPPSS Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley

Dr. Brumley had reason to be excited following his first Discovery Day of the 2018-19 school year. He spent the day in District 3 and at Allen Ellender School listening to students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and community members. Watch the video above to learn more about his day in District 3.

Dr. Brumley’s next Discovery Day will be September 27 in District 6 and Bridgedale Elementary. That morning’s coffee chat will be from 8 to 9 a.m. at Cleary Playground at 3700 Civic St. in Metairie. The town hall will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at Bridgedale Elementary at 808 Zinna St. in Metairie. Click here to see his full 2018-19 Discovery Days schedule.

Discovery Days are a way for Dr. Brumley to stay connected with the communities he serves as superintendent of the largest school system in Louisiana. Each Discovery Day begins with a community coffee chat from 8 to 9 a.m. and ends with a town hall meeting from 5 to 6 p.m. The coffee chats and town halls bookend days Dr. Brumley will spend at a different school getting to know students, educators, and families. Schools were drawn at random by each board member. Each Discovery Day begins with coffee, followed by a learning-walk around the school, a meeting with that school’s principal, lunch with students, a meeting with faculty after school, and a town hall meeting that night.
