Message from the Superintendent: October 2014

Top-Schools-Banner-webOn October 21, the Louisiana Department of Education released school and district performance scores for the 2013-14 school year. I’m so proud to share with you that the results demonstrate another year of academic growth for the Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS), and I hope you will join us celebrating the accomplishments of our students, staff, and families.

As you may have already heard, 15 JPPSS schools are now “A” schools, and for the first time since letter grades were established in 2011, seven open-enrollment schools received the top letter grade. These schools serve a large and diverse group of students, from low-income students to students who are English language learners. Their success demonstrates that all children can learn and excel academically at the highest levels, and our work moving forward is to ensure that all of our schools offer the same type of high quality education to the families in Jefferson Parish.

I want to thank every person in the school system for their work, which contributes directly to the academic achievement of our students. All of our staff members are critical to the district’s success, and they play a huge role in the lives of our students every day. I also want to thank our parents, families, and community supporters who are partners with us in our work to educate our students. It’s an honor to work with you, and I look forward to continuing our work together on behalf of the students and the community of Jefferson Parish.
