Message from the Superintendent: November 2016

16398507085_74edbbca13_zEvery child deserves a quality education and every community deserves quality public schools. The Jefferson Parish Public School System has experienced tremendous success over the past eight years. We still have much more work to do, and we need your help to finish the job.

On Saturday, December 10, Jefferson Parish residents will have the opportunity to continue support of their public schools by voting to renew the existing millage of 4 mills. Passing this renewal will have a positive impact on generations of students in Jefferson Parish…and it will come without any extra cost to taxpayers.

Funds generated from this renewal are dedicated to the continuation and expansion of our technology department, routine maintenance of our schools and buildings, and capital projects. The estimated $13.9 million generated by this renewal directly impacts our teachers and students across the Parish: whether it’s by providing our educators with laptops, ensuring our students have access to current technology, or keeping our school buildings safe and secure.

Here are just some of our accomplishments since the last time this millage was renewed:

  • Our district letter grade improved from a D to a B
  • Our number of A and B schools nearly tripled, while our D and F schools fell by more than 60%
  • We regularly outperform similar districts in our state, and we moved up twenty spots on the state rankings
  • Five of the state’s top 10 public schools and seven of the top 20 are right here in JPPSS

With your help, we have seen remarkable growth. Everyone in Jefferson Parish has a stake in this election and in the success of our public school system. Please vote on December 10.

Warm Regards,

Isaac G. Joseph
