Superintendent’s Message: November 2012

Dear JPPSS Employees and Community Members:

As we enter the Thanksgiving holiday, I am reminded of how grateful I am to this community of staff members, families, partners, and supporters who dedicate themselves every day to the mission and the work of the Jefferson Parish Public School System.

It’s been a year filled with many changes as we continued with reform efforts to ensure that all students in this district are offered a high quality education that prepares them for success in college or the workforce. Thanks to your hard work and your unfailing support, JPPSS has also seen significant progress in student learning and achievement that we are excited to build upon throughout the rest of the school year and beyond.

To our teachers, principals, and school staff members: thank you for dedicating yourselves to the challenging but rewarding and invaluable work of educating our students. You are on the front lines every day with the children of Jefferson Parish, and your work to ensure to the success of these students is the foundation for our overall work in the district. We deeply appreciate your talents, your passion, and your joy in working with our students.

To our central office employees: thank you for committing to better serve our students and our schools through your work as a central office staff member. Every single employee of this school district plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our district achieves its mission and its vision of providing a world-class education to every child, no matter his or her background. Thank you for being part of our team to get to this end goal.

To our students and families: thank you for choosing Jefferson Parish Public Schools and for bringing to our community such a diversity of talents, personalities, cultures, and accomplishments. We are so proud to serve your family and we look forward to building an even stronger relationship with you in support of our students.

To our community partners, supporters, and stakeholders: thank you for supporting the work of JPPSS in so many different ways. In these times of limited resources and shrinking budgets, having great community partners and advocates for the district is critical to ensuring that our work moves forward. We are lucky to have you as part of the JPPSS family.

To our school board members: thank you for your vision, your leadership, and the courage you display in making the decisions that are best for our children.

I am humbled by this opportunity to serve this community as the superintendent of Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Thank you, once again, for all that you do for JPPSS.

I wish you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

James Meza Jr.
