Message from the Superintendent: January 2018

The Jefferson Parish Public School System is a district of choice that prepares students for life after graduation. For proof, look no further than our plans for February. Parents can learn about the many school choice options available for their children during our magnet and academic programs showcase events. JPPSS is also partnering with area school districts and community organizations to host a regional career expo.

The JPPSS Magnet and Academic Programs Showcase is an annual event that gives parents the opportunity to see the choices available in our district prior to the annual magnet program application period. Parents can meet face-to-face with representatives from programs like STEM, arts integration, International Baccalaureate, language immersion, gifted and talented, advanced placement, career programs, charter schools, and Child Search.

These showcase events will be February 5 at the JPPSS Administration Building at 501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey and February 6 in the Riverdale High gymnasium at 240 Riverdale Drive in Jefferson. Both meetings are from 6 to 7 p.m. The annual magnet program application period is February 19 to April 13.

The 2018 Regional Career Expo will introduce students to high demand, high wage jobs available in our area. Last year’s JPPSS Career Expo was a huge success. The bar has most definitely been raised. This year’s event is being hosted by JPPSS, Plaquemines Parish Schools, St. Bernard Parish Schools, St. Charles Parish Public Schools, JEDCO, the West Bank Industrial Association, and Greater New Orleans Inc. It takes place February 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UNO Lakefront Arena.
