Message from the Superintendent: January 2017

60x36_SustaintheVote_BN_E_56inEveryone in the Jefferson Parish Public School System would like to issue a heartfelt thank you to the residents of Jefferson Parish. Our 4 mill property tax renewal passed by an overwhelming margin on December 10. We are grateful for your support and will continue to be good stewards of your resources and trust.

Many of our schools consistently rank among the best public schools in Louisiana. Our most recent state report card highlighted some successes and challenges for our district. Our overall letter grade is a “C.” It is disappointing to lose a letter grade. We’ve had such a good run of success over the past five years, and are putting a plan in place to continue our upward trajectory. The report card also revealed a lot of positives about our district. ACT scores are up and the strength of our high school diploma has increased. We’ve added two new A-rated non-select schools, giving us a total of 13 “A” schools. Three of our schools received Top Gains status for exceeding growth, and we no longer have any failing traditional schools.

Quality public schools matter to everyone who lives and works in Jefferson Parish. Top notch public schools educate our citizens and attract people to our community. They can lead to increased property values for our home owners and a more skilled local workforce for our business owners. As Jefferson Parish’s public education system and its second largest employer, a more vibrant JPPSS leads to a more vibrant Jefferson Parish. Thank you for your continued support.
