LEAP 2017

LEAP Test

It’s testing season across Louisiana. Students in grades three through eight will take the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program, known more commonly as LEAP. For the 2016-17 school year, students will test in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The LEAP tests are just one indicator used to create a complete picture of a student’s performance in school. These assessment are aligned to the Louisiana Standards, which were developed with significant input from Louisiana educators.

LEAP Dates

While all students in grades three through eights will take the LEAP test, the dates they will do so varies.

Grades Testing Dates Type
5-8 April 3 – May 5 Computer-Based
3-4 May 1-5 Paper-Based
3-8 May 5 Paper-Based (Science Only)

LEAP Preparations

Our teachers, administrators, and staff members do a remarkable job preparing for testing season. This year we’ve placed special emphasis on equipping our schools and training our staff to facilitate computer-based tests. Grades 3 and 4 will take paper-based tests this year. Grades 5-8 will test online, with the exception of science. Our teachers and students have been practicing with the same online tools that will be used for the tests. These tools allow teachers and students to become familiar with the computer-based testing format and the interactive, technology-enhanced items they will use during the actual test.

Parents can help their children focus and prepare for the tests in a number of ways. Some simple tips covered at our recent Parent Advisory Council meetings include making sure your child is at school every day and on time, ensuring your child gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast, and talking with them about any anxiety they may have about testing.
