L.W. Higgins AFJROTC Featured in PBS Music Special

The L.W. Higgins High School AFJROTC choir, under the direction of Commander Major O.J. Gibson and Cadet Captain Johnathan Tate, are performing as guests on the “Tim Janis Celebrate America” PBS Special featuring eleven Southeast Louisiana and Gulf Coast Mississippi high school and middle school choirs. The broadcast premieres on WYES-TV on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. and repeats Saturday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m.

“Celebrate America” is a project led by composer, musician, conductor and arranger Tim Janis that spotlights America’s thousands of public school students and their music programs on public television. To date, “Celebrate America” has had over 22,000 students on the program.

In addition to Higgins, the visiting choirs featured on the show include: Ursuline Academy under the direction of Kimberly Hilliard, Ponchatoula High School under the direction of Stephanie Robertson, Lakeshore High School, under the direction of Henrietta Faciane, H.L. Bourgeois High School under the direction of Nicole Webb and Angela Jones-Landry,, Isidore Newman High School/Middle School, under the direction of Anthony Sears, St. Mary’s Dominican High School, under the direction of Brenda Castillo, Destrehan High School under the direction of Michael Townsend, Gulfport High School under the direction of David Chavers, Vandebilt High School, under the direction of Sarah Todd, O. Perry Walker Charter High School under the direction of Joseph Knox, and special guest, Denham Springs’ teen soloist, Gabe Ragusa making his debut singing “Nessum Dorma.”

Again, the PBS special will air on WYES-TV on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. and repeats Saturday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m.
