JPPSS to Hold Magnet and Academic Programs Showcase on January 27 and 28

Lincoln-Elementary-bannerThe Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) has announced dates for its 2015 Magnet and Academic Programs Showcase.

The meetings will take place on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the district administration building, 501 Manhattan in Harvey and on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, in the cafeteria at Riverdale High School, 240 Riverdale Drive in Jefferson. The meetings for both locations will last one hour from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Representatives from the district’s magnet and academic programs and the schools at which they are offered will be in attendance. The programs and schools are as follows:

Arts Integration
The comprehensive arts integration program is designed for students who have a strong interest in dance, drama, music, and art as well as for students who want a challenging academic experience. The curriculum is designed to incorporate the arts into core classes to help deepen and broaden student understanding while adhering to the state mandated learning objectives and parish policies.

Clancy-Maggiore Elementary School for the Arts

French and Spanish Language Immersion
The French and Spanish immersion programs develop student proficiency in a second language while providing a foundation in fundamentals of language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, health, physical education, and cultural arts programs. The program fosters an understanding of and an appreciation for Louisiana’s cultures and those of other areas and countries.

Ellis Elementary (French and Spanish)
Riverdale Middle School (French)

International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)
IBO programs develop the whole student, helping students to grow intellectually, socially, aesthetically, and culturally. They provide a broad and balanced education that includes science and the humanities, languages and mathematics, technology and the arts. They instill a sense of responsibility towards others and towards the environment. IBO programs also give students an awareness and understanding of their own culture and of other cultures, values, and ways of life.

Montessori
The Montessori method for education involves children learning through creative activity and exploration.

Schools:
Collins Montessori
Washington Montessori

Other Programs
Cuillier Career Center and representatives from the Advanced Placement Initiative, Gifted & Talented, Child Find, and Early Steps programs will also be in attendance at the meetings.
