JPPSS Task Force Aims to Make JPPSS Top Choice for Learning, Working Environments

_MG_3404Nearly 40 Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) stakeholders filled a conference room at the JPPSS Administration Building recently to start work on a long-term plan to create a working and learning environment that makes the district the first choice for parents and employees.

The JPPSS Discipline Task Force consists of teachers, parents, administrators, district staff and leadership, school board members, local law enforcement, and other community stakeholders. This diverse group was commissioned by the Jefferson Parish School Board. Its goal is to develop a comprehensive discipline plan that will result in greater teacher effectiveness, higher student achievement, and improved school climate. The group will focus on areas ranging from policies and procedures, professional development and technical support, as well as communications.

While the group’s initial goal is to develop an effective plan to present during the August board meeting, members understand that true success will only come from continuous dialogue and a consistent implementation that lasts well past this summer.

The group’s first meeting consisted of an overview of current resources and professional development JPPSS already offers its schools, such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the School Climate Transformation Grant (SCTG), the Louisiana Safe and Supportive Schools Initiative (LSSSI), and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA).
