JPPSS Supports the National Latino Family Expo

The Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) had a strong presence during the 2013 National Council of La Raza (NCLR) National Latino Family Expo held in New Orleans July 20-22 at the Morial Convention Center. The free expo is one of the largest events in the country focusing on resources and activities for Latino families.

Michelle Blouin-Williams, the district’s chief academic officer, and other JPPSS staff set up an informational booth that provided families with ESL brochures, job openings for bilingual para-professionals, and other important school system materials in Spanish. Children visiting the JPPSS booth were treated to candy, pencils and stickers.

The district’s support of the Latino Family Expo also included coordinating with NCLR the use of Bonnabel and West Jefferson high schools as community shuttle pickup locations. In the months leading up to the convention, JPPSS promoted the Latino Family Expo with a Spanish-language interview segment on JPS-TV, as well as information on the district’s website.
