“Southern Hospitality” by Fisher Middle-High senior Kristen Ronquille

Jefferson Parish Public School System students comprise nearly one-third of the finalist in the prestigious George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts 2017 Scholarship Art Contest.

Five JPPSS high school students were among the 16 finalists announced for the annual contest that will award $45,000 in college scholarships. The students are Fisher Middle-High senior Kristen Ronquille, Riverdale High seniors Hope Gann and Nathan Vogel, and Thomas Jefferson High seniors Abby Hunter and Stephanie Sullivan. Vogel and Gann competed as juniors last year and placed first and third, respectively.

Awards will be announced at a luncheon on Saturday, March 25 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. Along with scholarships, this year’s event features a priceless experience for the big winner. In partnership with the City of New Orleans, the theme of this year’s contest is “New Orleans Tricentennial.” The grand prize winner will work with the Rodrigue Foundation and the City of New Orleans to transform their design into the official New Orleans Tricentennial Poster, which will be sold at tricentennial events across the city.
