JPPSS Remembers Beloved Principal, Teacher, and Friend Dr. Scott Steckler

S_STECKLER_DRSCOTT-240x300Long-time George Cox Elementary Principal Dr. Scott Steckler, 68, died Friday, December 11. A beloved teacher and administrator during his over 45 years with the Jefferson Parish Public School System, Dr. Steckler possessed a true passion for his students and coworkers that was evident in the dedicated service he showed each and every day.

“Scott’s legacy and commitment to education in Jefferson Parish will forever remain in our thoughts and a driving force of our dedication to providing a high quality education for all children,” said JPPSS Superintendent Isaac G. Joseph. “Please continue to keep both Scott’s immediate family and the George Cox community in your prayers.”

Dr. Steckler began his career with JPPSS as a teacher in 1969. He had been principal of George Cox for 28 years.

The services for Dr. Steckler will be held on Saturday, December 19 at St. Mary of the Angels (3501 N. Miro, New Orleans, LA 70117). Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. and the service begins at 11 a.m.
A reception will follow at George Cox Elementary School (2630 Belle Chasse Hwy., Gretna, LA 70056).
