JPPSS Receives Second Recognition for Financial Reporting Excellence

The Jefferson Parish Public School System has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the district’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2012.

The district was honored for going beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.

“We are very proud of this recognition,” said Superintendent Dr. James Meza, Jr. “This is the 21st year that we have received this award, and it demonstrates our continued commitment to transparency in our accounting and financial practices.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The recognition from the GFOA is the second for the district in financial reporting excellence this year. In August, JPPSS received a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for the same Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for fiscal year ending 2012.
