JPPSS Names Students of the Year

Students from Harold Keller Elementary School, J.D. Meisler Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High School have been named Students of the Year by the Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS).

The winners are:

  • ·Gayoon Nam, 5th grade, Keller Elementary
  • Daniel Lau, 8th grade, Meisler Middle
  • Tram Nguyen, 12th grade, Thomas Jefferson High

The three students recently received a surprise visit from Acting Superintendent Michelle Blouin-Williams and their family members to officially announce their selection as Students of the Year.

“These students are so impressive in every way,” said Blouin-Williams. “We are excited to honor not only the students, but also their families, teachers, and school leadership through this program. Congratulations to Gayoon, Daniel, and Tram on this well-deserved recognition – we are proud for you to represent Jefferson Parish at the state level.”

The Students of the Year Awards Program is sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) and is designed to recognize outstanding elementary, middle/junior high, and high school students throughout the state. The district’s Students of the Year are now eligible to be selected as the statewide Students of the Year by the LDOE. Regional nominees for the state recognition will be announced in March 2015, and winners will be announced in April 2015.
