JPPSS Hosts Back to School Event August 5 at the Oakwood Center

The Jefferson Parish Public School System invites families to “Explore Our Services” during its special event at the Oakwood Center on Saturday, August 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JPPSS staff will be at the mall to speak with parents and community members about back to school topics, as well as the many resources and benefits offered to students and families. Adult education, child services, compliance and registration, gifted and talented, health services, pre-k, and human resources are just some of the departments planning to attend.

“The Explore Our Services event gives parents a chance to learn about the different programs and services that are provided to the students of the Jefferson Parish Public School System,” said JPPSS Director of Community Engagement Christie Gomez. “It gives parents a chance to meet with staff one on one in a relaxed environment and put a face to the people that serve their children.”

In addition to learning more about how JPPSS serves its families, attendees can participate in a special give-away to help prepare for the first day of school. The event will also include performances from JPPSS student groups.

The Oakwood Center is located at 197 Westbank Expressway in Gretna. The event will take place near the center of the mall. The first day of school for the 2017-18 school year is August 10 for students in grades 1-12. The first day for students in pre-k and kindergarten is August 15 and 16 (this date varies by school).
