JPPSS Appoints New Chief Networks Officer

The Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) has appointed William J. Murphy, a current network executive director in the district, to the newly created position of chief networks officer. The chief networks officer will oversee the district’s six school networks and will report directly to Superintendent Dr. James Meza, Jr.

“Bill brings to the position in-depth knowledge and experience in successfully implementing a portfolio management system,” said Meza. “I have been very impressed with his innovation and high quality work since he arrived at JPPSS and could not imagine a more qualified person to fill the role of chief network officer.”

Murphy will assume his new role on February 1, 2013. The district plans to appoint an acting network executive director to replace Murphy. The chief academic officer position, vacated by the retirement of Richard Carpenter, will not be filled.

Prior to joining JPPSS in 2012 as one of its six network executive directors, Murphy served as the chief of leadership development for ReNEW Schools in New Orleans. A former principal with the Baltimore City Public Schools and a teacher and special education director in Massachusetts, Murphy began his education career as a special education teacher in Garyville, Louisiana. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College, a master’s degree in education from Boston College, and a master’s degree in comparative religion from the Catholic University of America.
