JPPSS Announces Teachers of the Year, Principal of the Year

The Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) announced its honorees for the 2015 Louisiana Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year programs, recognition programs run by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) that honor the most exceptional educators from each local school system throughout the state.

The JPPSS 2015 Teachers of the Year are Troy Hobson, 5th grade teacher at Greenlawn Terrace Elementary School in Kenner; Stephanie Dillon, 8th grade English language arts teacher from Henry Ford Middle School in Avondale; and John McCloskey, band director from Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy in Avondale.

The district’s 2015 Principal of the Year is Denise Rehm, principal of Joshua Butler Elementary School in Westwego.

“These outstanding educators from JPPSS were nominated by their schools and selected by the district for their significant impact on improving student achievement and demonstration of rigorous instructional practices that clearly align to the Common Core State Standards,” said Superintendent Dr. James Meza, Jr. “It is my great privilege and honor to recognize these four dedicated educators for all that they have done and continue to do for our students and schools.”

Meza will visit each of the honorees at their respective schools in the coming weeks for an award presentation and celebration of their accomplishments.

The district’s Teachers of the Year and Principal of the Year are now eligible to be selected as the statewide Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year by the LDOE. Semifinalists for the state recognition will be announced in February 2014, and finalists will be announced in July 2014.
