Jefferson Public Schools In The Top 10 of State’s Most Improved Systems

The Jefferson Parish Public School System made one of the largest gains in the Louisiana accountability rankings for 2010 in its district ranking score and increased its school performance score, according to preliminary results from the state Department of Education.

The 2010 school district ranking for the Jefferson Parish Public School System improved to 52nd out of 70 school districts in the state.  That’s a 12 point improvement from its 64th ranking in 2009.

The Jefferson Parish Public School System also increased its school performance score to 84.9 for 2010.  That’s an increase of 6.5 points over its 2009 score of 78.4.

“This improvement is because of the extraordinary efforts of the teachers, students, principals, and parents,” said Superintendent Dr. Diane Roussel.

The Louisiana Department of Education will release district and school performance scores for all 70 of the state’s school systems during a press conference in Baton Rouge.
