Jefferson Parish School Board Approves 2014-2015 School Calendar

The Jefferson Parish School Board has approved the 2014-2015 school calendar at its April meeting.

“The calendar was developed by a committee that included teachers, principals, and central office personnel to ensure that the interests of all our stakeholders were represented,” said Superintendent Dr. James Meza, Jr.

The approved calendar meets all state requirements and maximizes the amount of uninterrupted instructional time. The 2014-2015 academic calendar is similar to the 2013-2014 academic calendar with the following revisions:

  • Based on feedback from middle and high school teachers, the committee changed exam days from full days to early release days. On these days, students will be released from school 120 minutes early to allow teachers time to grade and allow students time to study for remaining exams. These days will be remain full days for elementary students.
  • Teachers will have three work days prior to the arrival of students to provide ample time for professional development and classroom preparation.
  • After a study of attendance data this year and in years past, this calendar reflects the return to a one-week break for Mardi Gras along with a five-day weekend for spring break.
  • Parent conference days will be held after a regular school day three times throughout the school year. Each school will develop its own plan on how best to implement parent conferences to maximize parent attendance.
  • The proposed calendar identifies 6 inclement weather days.

The entire calendar can be viewed and downloaded on the district’s website at jpschools.org/calendar.
