Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) Administration Building Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Jefferson Parish Public School System Administration Building will be held, Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., at 501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey. The public is invited to attend.

JPPSS headquarters sustained severe water damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. After    thorough analysis, the Federal Emergency Management Agency declared the building’s damages exceeded 50%, as defined by FEMA policy, and was eligible for replacement.

The new 93,000 square foot, 20.5 million dollar facility was paid primarily by FEMA, and also with insurance proceeds collected for damage to the old facility and from funds from a Community Block Development Grant. No school board operating funds or capital budget funds were used for the new facility.

The new structure was designed to comply with current codes and standards, which should allow the building the ability to withstand future storms similar in strength to Hurricane Katrina.
