Jefferson Parish Public School System Awarded District Accreditation

The Jefferson Parish Public School System became the first large school system in the greater New Orleans area to be awarded District Accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).

This means that Jefferson Parish Public School System and all of its schools are accredited and that JPPSS is recognized across the nation as a quality school system. The accreditation was announced at the December 9, 2009 board meeting.  A team of 20 educators from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, and Arkansas spent almost a week interviewing JPPSS board members, administration, and teachers as well as touring 20 schools within the system as part of the accreditation process.

In its interim report, the team noted many strengths of the Jefferson Parish Public School and commended the system for its leadership team, professional development, innovative programs, and technology integration. A final report will be issued to the system in 30 days. The accreditation process involves three major components:   1) meeting high quality standards; 2) implementing a continuous process of improvement; and 3) engaging in quality assurance through internal and external review. The district’s accreditation is for a five year term with regular monitoring of progress and reporting occurring during the term.
