Haynes Academy Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary

Haynes Academy will celebrate its 100 year anniversary on October 9 with a unique program, documentary, and a special speaker from the family that originally donated the land where the school is located.

Once known as Metairie High School and four other designations, Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies will mark “100 Years of Excellence in Public Education” during a special program that begins at 1:00 p.m. in the school gym.

Haynes Academy will continue that 100 years of public education excellence as the Metairie Road campus is one of several 5-star schools in the greater New Orleans area.

The event’s keynote speaker is Miriam Bonnabel Lacey Buchler, granddaughter of Alfred Bonnabel who donated the property for a school to be constructed.

On Sept. 23, the Jefferson Parish Council issued a proclamation sponsored by council member Cynthia Lee-Sheng recognizing Haynes 100 year anniversary.
