Green Park Holds Mock Election

Students at Green Park Elementary became part of the 2012 electoral process as they participated in a mock presidential election.

“It’s something we’ve done for the last few elections, and we wanted to continue the lesson,” said teacher Yvette Netzhammer.

For the past month, teachers have spoken with their students about the candidates and the election process in their classes, as well as highlighting books from the library and various websites that address the election.

On the morning of November 5, Nicholas Lout, a fifth grader who portrayed candidate Mitt Romney, and Molik Reese, a fourth grader who portrayed President Barack Obama, held a debate on GPTV – the school’s morning broadcast.

After the debate, ballots were cast and principal Sandy Phillips made the announcement that the Green Park Gators elected Barack Obama as the president of the United States.
