The Waggaman Community Foundation has awarded $10,000 to Cherbonnier/Rillieux Elementary. The generous donation is meant to enhance the educational experience for students inside the classroom and beyond.

“Not only am I grateful for this donation as the school’s principal, I’m also truly appreciative as a member of the community,” said Cherbonnier/Rillieux Elementary Principal Cristin Menyweather.

The funds will go towards instructional materials as well as to experiences that engage students outside of the classroom like field trips and improvements to the playground area. The foundation decided to make the donation after president Sam Sparacio and board members visited the school to learn about its initiative to improve its school performance score. The foundation was seeking to enhance the educational experience of students in the Waggaman and Avondale communities.

“We have an ambitious goal,” said Menyweather. “We want to motivate students and faculty through rewarding incentives that will inspire us all to achieve excellence. This significant contribution by the Waggaman Community Foundation is greatly appreciated.”
