Students at Estelle School experienced a special family event recently. Over 100 girls and their fathers took part in the school’s “A Date with Dad” dance.
“Seeing the kids dance with their dads was so moving, and so many dads thanked us for putting on this event,” said Estelle School teacher Kathey Early. “This was a community building event, and an opportunity for the girls to get a first look at how they should expect to be treated.”
The event, which took place at the school on April 29, featured a Hollywood theme. Dads and daughters walked the red carpet to the cheers of the “paparazzi” (staff members decked out with cameras and press badges). Once inside the dance area, guests could take and receive photos on the spot. Dads could also purchase roses for their daughters.
There were two dance contests, with first and second place trophies going to students in grades 3-6 and 6-8. Even if they didn’t win the contest, everyone left with a keepsake. Instead of tickets, guests received silicone wristbands that said “Estelle School – A Date with Dad.”
