Effective September 4, 2018 the State of Louisiana, Department of Motor Vehicles is requiring all students to get a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) before they can register for Driver’s Education classes.

TO OBTAIN THE TIP:
     Students need to go to the Office of Motor Vehicles.

Requirements for Minor Students (15 – 17 years old)

  • Original or State Certified Birth Certificate (no photocopies)
  • Social Security Card
  • School Enrollment Form – Student obtains this form from there school before reporting to the OMV (student must at least be in the 8th grade)
  • Legal Custodial/Domiciliary Parent/Guardian with their Driver’s License or State ID Card
    • Original or Court Certified Custody Papers (if there are any)

Requirements for Adult Student (18 years or older)

  • Original or State Certified Birth Certificate (no photocopies)
  • Social Security Card
  • Proof of residence (Two proof of residence if applying for a Real ID)

*Note: If an adult has a valid Louisiana State ID already issued and their Social Security Number is in the OMV’s system, then only the ID and Proof of Residency is needed.

COST OF THE TEMPORARY INSTRUCTION PERMIT AT THE OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLES:
The Temporary Instruction Permit is 32.25 with the possible service fee up to $6.00. 
Forms of payment are Cash, Credit/Debit Card, Money Order and Check (check number must be over 1500 to be accepted) Convenience fees apply for Credit/Debit Cards and Check transactions.

 

JEFFERSON PARISH PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM, DRIVER’S EDUCATION PROGRAM

About Us

Driving instruction is offered to high school students 15 years old to 17 years old and at least in the 8th grade. This is a state-approved course. Students can receive a 1/2-unit credit for taking the course, which is offered 4 times yearly.

The 38 hours’ driver’s education course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction for 10 nights from 5:00-8:00 p.m., students must attend all classes. The course also includes 8 hours of student driving. The cost of the course is $400.00 and must be paid by money order or check at registration.  Enrollment is limited each session.

All current JPPSS Employees will receive a 10% discount for their son/daughter to attend the Driver’s Ed. Program, cost $ 360.00. 

To register for Driver’s Education classes all student must have:

  • Louisiana Temporary Instruction Permit
  • 17 or under – Parent or Guardian

Registration begins at 5:00 P.M. and ends when all seats have been sold or 6:00 P.M. whichever comes first.:

DRIVER’S EDUCATION CLASSES:

* Starts the day after Labor Day, Tuesday – Monday, 5 – 8 p.m., for 2 weeks, 10 nights of classroom instruction.
 Fall Session: September 4 – 17, 2018

Monday – Friday, 5 – 8 p.m., for 2 weeks, 10 nights of classroom instruction. 
Winter Session: November 26 – December 7, 2018
Spring Session: March 11 – 22, 2019

Monday – Friday, 3 – 6 p.m., for 2 weeks, 10 afternoons of classroom instruction.
Summer Session: June 3 – 14, 2019

East Bank Class Site:

Upon completion of classroom requirements the instructors will have 3 months for each student to complete 8 hours behind the wheel training. This training will be divided into 3 – 4 session. Students will drive after school, on weekends and any available day(s) when school is not in session. Student must have the Temporary Instruction Permit on them at all times during behind the wheel training.

LOST DRIVER’S EDUCATION CERTIFICATE OF SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
Student’s made obtain a duplicate copy of their lost Driver’s Education Certificate of Completion from the Driver’s Ed office.  Please call in advance so the documents can be located.  A fee of 15.00 is charged for all duplicates.

CERTIFICATION OF REQUIRED SCHOOL ATTENDANCE FORM
Students, under the age of 18, are required to bring a current “Certification of Required School Attendance” form each time they go to the D.M.V.  Please see the counselor at your school for this form.  Remember it must be on school letterhead signed in blue ink for the D.M.V. to accept it.
