Bonnabel Junior Hammers State Title To Make It Three In A Row

Bonnabel Magnet Academy High School student Maurice Burst took first place in the Louisiana Skills USA competition in cabinetmaking for the third consecutive year.

Burst, a junior at Bonnabel, advances to the national competition later this summer.

He plans to pursue a career in the field of construction following graduation.  He has been enrolled in the construction program at Bonnabel for three years.  His sponsoring teachers are Mr. Dave Shelton and Ms. Kandy Kilpatrick from the Industrial Technology department at Bonnabel.

Skills USA is the largest organization in the country for high school and college students enrolled in career education programs.  Students compete at the regional, state, and national levels in more than 100 areas.

Burst now advances to the national competition, representing the state of Louisiana.  The nationals will be held in Kansas City, Missouri in June.  In 2009, he placed 13th and in 2010 he placed 28th out of 50 high school cabinetmaking students competing from every state.
