Bonnabel and Cuillier Students Earn Gold, Silver, and Bronze at SkillsUSA

The Louisiana SkillsUSA competition was co-hosted last month by Bonnabel Magnet Academy High School and Cuillier Career Center. Students from across the state participated in the three-day event.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.

Ten students from Bonnabel and Cuillier earned gold medals in their categories and will compete in the SkillsUSA National Championship this June in Kansas City.

Bonnabel gold medal winners were as follows:

  • Denel Osburn, screen printing
  • Cindy Tran, commercial baking
  • James Vu, medical terminology

Cuillier gold medal winners were as follows:

  • Brandon Armant, graphic arts
  • Amanda Escobar, custom sewing
  • Rene Lewen, welding
  • Richard Moldonado, auto tech
  • Kyle Thomas, precision machine
  • Erik Lopez, barber
  • Stasha Young, dental assistant

Sixteen Bonnabel and Cuillier students also won silver and bronze medals in various categories.

Silver medalists from Bonnabel included Karina Mendoza for commercial baking and Robert Dendinger for screen printing; bronze medalists were Daniel Henriquez for job interview and India Perkins for advertising design.

Cuillier silver medalists were Kiera Magee for custom sewing, Danischia Robinson for dental assistant, Jamie Williams for certified nursing assistant, Author Sanders for carpentry, Mark Falgout for cabinet making, Glenn Hawkins for graphic arts, Morgan Steward for precision machine and Dalvin Knighten for barber. Receiving the bronze medal were Denisse Trevino for dental assistant, Tavares Washington for cabinet making, Aaron Gains for graphic arts and Jeffery Rapp for barber.
