Bissonet Elementary Is Healthiest School In System

Bissonet Plaza Elementary School was recently selected as a recipient of the annual School Health Award for the 2008-2009 school year by the Louisiana Department of Education. This is the first time the Metairie school has been recognized for this award.

The School Health Award recognizes activities that encourage students to develop lifelong healthful eating and physical activity habits.

Bissonet’s innovative health program will be featured as a best practice in Louisiana.

The Bissonet team has been invited to a reception with the B.E.S.E. board on Thursday, October 15. They will be presented with a certificate and a cash award followed by recognition at the BESE meeting.

Two other schools – Jefferson Elementary and Schneckenberger Elementary – also received Gold awards. And: Audubon, Johnson Gretna Park, Hazel Park, Phoebe Hearst, Woodmere, and Live Oak received Silver awards. There were an additional 19 schools that earned Bronze awards.

The Jefferson Paris School Board will recognize Bissonet Plaza School at its October meeting, along with Principal Brenda Breithaupt and her P.E. staff – Sonia Lombardino, Susan Kelly, Eric Roberts, Tammie Miller, and Athletic Director Manny Barocco.
