Academies Make Newsweek’s List of America’s Best High Schools 2012

Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy, Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies, and Thomas Jefferson Academy for Advanced Studies all ranked in the top 400 of Newsweek’s best 1,000 public high schools in the nation.   Schools highlighted in the list are those that have demonstrated to be the most effective in producing college-ready graduates.  The rankings were based upon calculations of six components – on time graduation rate (25 percent), graduates accepted to college (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests per student (25 percent), average SAT and/or ACT score (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE score (10 percent), and AP/IB/AICE courses offered per student (5 percent).  Patrick Taylor ranked 141, Haynes ranked 208, and Thomas Jefferson ranked 395.
